We have lost our two best players from last season , and Slaven still has no backroom staff.

Not Bashing Julain , you cant blame him for taking the position , but outside of being a fans favorite , what was the thinking in his appointment ?
Slaven needs a number 2, someone who has been through it with him, and understand and can implement his ideas.

Unrelated , but ust as critical , song and downing have not been replaced , two big players for us last term , I really think we need three first team players of equal qualirty for us to be competitve this season , as we are well short at the moment .

Howver unless Slaven gets the right team around him , quickly , its going to bea real tough job for him.

Im sure nonody knows this more than the manager , so hes got a week before the end of the window , to bring players in , getting them bedded in , and tacitally get us back on track , essentially all on his own.

I never had the feeling that Payet was a replacement for Downing, just that the offer from boro was too good to turn down for a player that age

We've soent theast 4 seasons plugging gaps with desperate I'll fitting loans, I'd like to think we can move away from that a bit now but there's always some excuse about funds and FFP tgat don't quite ring true

Am I the only one who thinks Downing was not much of a loss? Whilst he had some excellent games before Christmas he went missing along with the rest of them from Chelsea away onwards and I must say I still cringe at his bottle job when it was easier to score because he was worried that a keeper was going to hurt him!!

Longford
Walrus only had three coaches including his assistant manager McDonald. Bilic has three coaches(including goalkeeping coach)plus a fitness bloke,plus all the remaining back room staff that stayed post Allardyce. Bilic's assistant manager Jurcevic is still waiting for a work permit to be able to sit in the dugout.
Can't see a problem really.

An assistant with Premier League experience should come in.

Aside from being ex WHU Dicks has nothing on his CV to suggest he would be capable of taking the 21's let alone the first team. On a football level it is a bizarre appointment.

Agree. People forget how ineffective Downing was when played out wide last season, not the player we need right now.

Payet is three times better than Downing. So I make that 3 replacements in one.

Song leaving has been replaced by not having to play Song every week just because of his "pedigree" Noble and Kouyate can now play together.

So all in all, that's 4 times better than last year.

Plus we don't have Sam Allardyce as manager so everybody is happy regardless, right?

Downing was very effective from the middle but got lost out on the wing. I'd much prefer Payet than him in the central position. Therefore, it was the correct decision to get rid and cash in on an aging bottle job.

Dicks was a cracking player in the pre-Sky era when you were allowed to make challenges and he had a magical left foot.

But as a manager and in terms of intelligence, he has been an abject failure at non-legue level and is not the sharpest tool in the box as they say (based on meeting him in Billericay a few years back).

The day Bilic hired DICKS was the day I started to doubt my initial IQ estimate.

I understand Bilic wants a MATE, but I reckon DICKS hangdog aura and sub-80 IQ is stinking the place out.
